The Leprechaun and the Librarian
Lead Presenter: Valibrarian Gregg / Valerie Hill
Co-presenter: roropillow / Rose Hardin Hill
Venue: Lecture B – The Oasis
This session explores how AI and librarians approach questions in fundamentally different ways. While a librarian shares your human context and training in interpreting queries, AI relies on patterns and probabilities that can take your prompt in unexpected directions. We will look at why these differences matter and how to think about prompting in order to get closer to the answer you actually need.
Objectives:
- Participants will be able to think critically about their personal use of AI for information access.
- Understanding best practices for teaching in the intelligence age will be demonstrated.
Insights Connection:
Without insight into how large language models actually work, humans cannot understand the pros and cons of using AI nor how we can value human intelligence as AI rapidly becomes ubiquitous.
Accessibility: I will use a SpeakEasy HUD Tool.
