Tell Me What You Want in an AI Learning Assistant
Lead Presenter: Lyr Lobo / Cynthia Calongne
Venue: Workshop A – Rock Theatre
What do you want to see possible in your ideal AI educational tool? Are you secretly wanting a digital assistant like J.A.R.V.I.S. from Ironman or are you thinking of AI as an evil overlord? Come share your discoveries as we explore what we need for AI support in online and virtual world education. This session examines our wish list for AI tools to strengthen course design, course delivery, and learning assessment. Bring your questions and help us to explore how we envision the future of education and how we plan to leverage AI tools in a thoughtful and reflective manner.
Objectives:
- Identify the affordances and perils of AI use in online and virtual world education.
- Draft an AI action plan for course design, delivery, and learning assessment.
Insights Connection:
At present, AI hype in education is strong, yet educators who are reluctant to be consumed by the technology may feel reluctant to use it for fear of reducing student learning and classroom connections. This session invites participants to take an active role in identifying what we want, what we need, and how to participate in the design of AI tools that meet our needs. The best insights come from us as we reflect on how an AI digital assistant should support virtual world education.
