An educator dared not approach the fearsomely temperamental Poseidon with her small request, so she sought out Amphitrite, his wife and Queen of the Sea. Humbly she beseeched the lovely deity to appeal to her husband the King on her behalf to bestow her wish. After much pondering and making of great waves he acceded and decreed that it shall be so. And thus came about the addition of a track, K-12 Best Practices, under the Communities of Practice category in the Call for Proposals…
Over the past decade, the Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education conference has been consistently building a critical mass for the unprecedented work of bold innovators who use virtual worlds in their work. Join them by submitting a proposal to the second round and final call, which closes January 27. Don’t miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to be part of the biggest conversation to date around virtual reality.
Have you ever walked past a colleague’s classroom and stopped, mesmerized by the student engagement you saw? Wouldn’t you love to be a fly on the wall? Wouldn’t it be even better if your colleague could explain what they are doing, and you could ask questions about it? That’s what we do at VWBPE!
Now consider this: YOUR ideas could be exactly what your colleagues are looking for. You may not realize how your practice has evolved over time into something that others could emulate. Take a moment to look at how you are teaching with virtual worlds, and think about what you could share.
Are you…
- A K-12 educator using Minecraft? Other 3D virtual worlds? Augmented reality?
- A higher education faculty member using OpenSimulator, Second Life, Unity, MInecraft, or other 3D virtual worlds in teaching or research?
- A builder, scripter, or designer creating tools and products for educators in virtual worlds?
- An advocacy or community leader utilizing virtual worlds to bring like-minded people together?
- A cinematographer who creates machinima for educators or communities of practice?
- A maverick, pioneer or trailblazer whose work is ahead of its time?
The Communities of Practice category has been revised for this second Call for Proposals to include two groups of presenters:
- Non-profit organizations, developers or designers, tool providers, and other individuals who offer training and support for educators, but who are not educators themselves or directly connected to schools or educational organizations.
- K-12 educators engaging students in learning experiences through virtual worlds.
These proposals will be peer reviewed, but unlike academic proposals, these submissions do not require a full paper.
Along with submissions of proposals in the Communities of Practice category, those in the Academic category will also be accepted in this second round. The Creative and Immersive Experiences categories remain open for proposals, too. Remember that this is the final round which closes the 27th of January.
VWBPE is for you. It’s an opportunity to come out of your classrooms and offices to meet with colleagues from all over the world – and you don’t even have to travel farther than your nearest computer to join us.
As we get closer to a momentous ten years of virtual conferences, we urge you: don’t miss your chance to be a part of this historic 10th anniversary program. As virtual worlds have evolved, educators, researchers, and communities of practice like you continue to innovate by leveraging and even transforming these platforms, thus contributing to our shared legacy.
We want to give you the voice to share your great work.
In whatever virtual world you have worked, researched, developed, or created communities, consider sharing your accomplishments with us. There is a category of submission for everyone, educators and non-educators alike.
