As we re:Vision our work in virtual environments we need to examine what we do and conceive of new ways to move forward. How best to do this? Who better to ask than an anthropologist? VWBPE has done just that!
Announcing Dr. Tom Boellstorff as the opening keynote speaker at VWBPE 2019.
Tom Boellstorff works and plays across the metaverse and beyond. He is well known as a friend and colleague in virtual environments. His Coming of Age in Second Life: An Anthropologist Explores the Virtually Human holds a treasured place on many of our bookshelves, and is required reading for anyone wanting to better understand the social engagement of virtual worlds.
Tom’s recent work in virtual environments is a 3-year collaboration with colleague Donna Davis, entitled Virtual Worlds, Disability and New Cultures of the Embodied Self. This work and the stories shared are showcased in a full length film by Draxtor Despres (Bernhard Drax) – Our Digital Selves: My Avatar is me!
Be sure to join us 04 – 06 April 2019 for VWBPE re:Vision.
