Quadrivium Schedule

The Quadrivium is an ancient and noble tradition in education. To the ancient Greeks it meant “the four ways” or a place where four roads meet. The Quadrivium combines space, time, harmony, and science to develop applied critical and creative approaches to modern issues that require innovative thinking, solutions, and practical mechanisms to our ever changing world.

VWBPE’s Quadrivium is more than just a networking event. It provides an opportunity to share and contribute to the scholarly pursuit of knowledge through interaction with a community of peers in order to develop real solutions to real problems. It is the first step in understanding the complex nature of these issues leading towards a principled path for institutions, instructional designers, facilitators, and students alike.

Meet us at the Quadrivium, we will entice you into conversations on these four topics. Bring your ideas and share them with us.

VR Technology on the Horizon
Date: Wednesday, March 29, 2017, 2:00 – 2:50 p.m.
Location: VWBPE Quadrivium
Facilitator: Adrienne Pascal (RL: Adrienne Evans)
Assistant: Amvans.Lapis (RL: Marie Vans)

Join us in a discussion on VR technology, the latest trends, what is viable and what is still too experimental to consider. How would these new technologies change the face of education? Where are the differences with augmented and virtual reality? The tech used for each? VR technology on the horizon is more prevalent now than it was even one year ago, and the platforms and tools have also exponentially increased.

The Technology of an Ideal Education System
Date: Friday, March 31, 2017, 7:00 – 7:50 a.m.
Location: VWBPE Quadrivium
Facilitator: Ghaelen D’Lareh (RL: Dauna M Kiser)
Assistant: Amvans.Lapis (RL: Marie Vans)

Join a what-if discussion about the technology of an ideal education system. What new and trending technologies, applications, etc. would fit into the learning needs of a modern society? How do we determine what is fad and what has the potential to endure and make some lasting impact on how we learn within a society of information overload?

Critical Thinking in the Age of Information Overload
Date: Thursday, March 30, 2017, 3:00 – 3:50 p.m.
Location: VWBPE Quadrivium
Facilitator: Linda Sautereau (RL: Peggy Lee Daniels)
Assistant: Elektra Panthar (RL: Elisa Segoni)

Come and talk with us about critical thinking in the age of information overload. We live in an information society that is constantly bombarded by media messages from multiple sources, and it is often difficult to discern truth from fiction and weigh the messages to make judgments on their value in our personal and professional lives. What strategies should we use to become better discerners of content?

Defining the True Digital Literacy
Date: Saturday, April 1, 2017, 10:00 – 10:50 a.m.
Location: VWBPE Quadrivium
Facilitator: TheoreticallyBlue Resident (RL: Yen Verhoeven)
Assistant: Elektra Panthar (RL: Elisa Segoni)

How to define digital literacy? The term gets used a lot, but what is it to be truly digitally literate? How does that differ from the traditional literacies and how is it similar? Consider how it may be making its presence in curriculum and the general community, changing the way schools, business, and organizations leverage tools that require digital literacy.

Please join us and be part of these conversations. We’ll meet you at the Quadrivium.
