This research used participatory observational case study. Students from Taiwan used a 3D virtual world in their art class to create their artwork. The art teacher taught a lesson called School reconstruction. We observed students how they form their ideal schools, where their ideas coming from, how they discuss and collaborate with each other, as well as how they put their ideas into action, make it into 3D virtual construction, and finally how they see and understand each other’s work.

  • Participants will explore the importance of freedom in education and how virtual worlds provide it to students
  • Participants will learn how virtual world promote Intrinsic Motivation to students that teachers should learn to utilize it

So you want to teach in virtual reality. 3D immersive platforms offer creative ways to teach better. But how? How much creativity is enough, or too much? Join us for this hands on demonstration and discussion of possible patterns for a given introducing our hypothetical students to our demo topic – wider aspects of collectible card gaming. After seeing examples, participants will consider and suggest ways they would design the learning scenes of the future. This workshop reviews, updates, and offers practice in design of 3D learning based on a 2016 VWBPE paper (Krebs et al, 2016).

  • Participants will be able to identify and evaluate 3d learning designs
  • Participants will be able to draft ideas for their own 3d learning designs

While virtual environments have been explored, discovered, and conquered, true immersion for learning continues to be elusive. This workshop will engage participants in an immersive model that borrows from experiential learning through the marriage of avatar, environment, and actions. Not only will participants engage in an immersive, interactive experience by using multimodal tools, but also create a plan for using the model with their own learners.

  • The participant will immerse their avatar in a learning experience using multimodal tools.
  • The participant will design their own plan for engaging their learners in true immersive learning.

Education in virtual worlds requires collaboration among colleagues and communities to overcome many obstacles including lack of administrative support, digital disruption leading to too many options, and a misunderstanding of immersive learning environments in relation to virtual reality. Learn how to best connect with learning communities and leaders to navigate the future of learning in virtual spaces.

  • Attendees will share ideas for deep learning rather than reinventing the wheel.

We offer a glimpse into a unique training for educators, counselors, artists, coaches and facilitators who wish to discover a way of using arts-based processes (builds, paintings or photos) symbolically in SL. We call this Symbolic Modeling (SymMod). This useful tool can be applied to intellectual, psychological, spiritual or creative processes, both with individuals and with groups. We will be showing a short film, as well as describing and demonstrating the SymMod method.

  • Participants will be able to witness the SymMod process and its usefulness in various fields.
  • Participants will be able to understand the benefits of training in the SymMod method.

“MindScape” is related to brain research and what can refer to the human mind, how to develop, inspire and care for or manipulate it. 15 artists have created either a 2D or a 3D work referring to the topic by adding his or her idea, be it more realistic-physical or more mental or philosophical abstract. The 3D area is a moon landscape, where the 50-prim-installations are presented.

  • Participants will be able to observe the installations and pictures and to interact with them.
  • Participants will be motivated to develop their own idea about what MIND can be and do for them.
